Sun and hail do more damage than you think

UV exposure fades clear coat and cracks dashboards. Hail across the Carolinas routinely writes off vehicles that were parked in the open. A carport is the cheapest structure we sell and it typically pays for itself against a single insurance deductible. That is the honest reason most of our carport customers buy.

Choosing a width

12' wide fits one car with walking room. 18' to 20' handles two vehicles, and 20' is the width most people wish they had bought instead of 18'. 24' and up covers three, or two plus a boat. For RVs, measure your height with the AC unit and add a foot โ€” most Class A coaches need 14' legs minimum, and getting this wrong is the single most common mistake we see.

Open, partly enclosed, or fully enclosed

A fully open carport is the cheapest. Adding gable ends cuts driving rain. Closing one or both sides turns it into a windbreak, which matters more than people expect on exposed rural sites. You can also start open and have us panel it in later โ€” the frame is the same, so nothing is wasted.

Common Questions

How much is a metal carport?

Carports are the least expensive structure we build. A basic single-car regular-roof unit is entry level; width, leg height, vertical roof and enclosure panels each move the number. Because pricing tracks steel coil cost, we quote current rather than from a fixed list. Call (252) 375-3651 for a same-day figure.

What size carport do I need for an RV?

Measure your RV's height including the roof-mounted AC and add at least a foot of clearance. Most Class A motorhomes need 14' legs; travel trailers and fifth wheels usually work at 12'โ€“13'. For width, 18' is workable and 20' is comfortable. Underestimating height is the most common and most expensive mistake buyers make.

Do carports need a permit?

It depends on your county and whether the structure is anchored permanently. Many jurisdictions treat an open carport differently from an enclosed garage. We can tell you what your county typically requires and supply certified drawings if needed.

Can a carport survive a hurricane or high wind?

Properly anchored and correctly certified, yes โ€” but anchoring is what determines the outcome, not the steel. We size anchors to your specific site and soil, and offer wind-rated certification for coastal counties in NC, SC and VA where it is required.

Can I put a carport on grass instead of concrete?

Yes. We install on level ground using rebar anchors, on asphalt with asphalt anchors, and on concrete with wedge anchors. The site needs to be reasonably level โ€” we will tell you if yours needs prep before we deliver.
