Roofing panels run down the slope, so their length is the rafter run. Siding panels run vertically, so their length is the wall height. Two different numbers on the same building, and they get transposed constantly — usually discovered on site with a truck already unloaded. Give us both dimensions and we will label them separately on the order.
If your roof and walls come from different suppliers, or from the same supplier in different production runs, small variation in the coating shows — particularly on adjacent surfaces in direct sun. Ordering both from one line at one time is the reliable way to get a genuine match. It also means one set of trim, colour-matched to both.
A roof needs ridge cap, eave and rake trim, and closures at ridge and eave. Walls need J-channel at every opening, corner trim inside and out, and base trim at grade. These are the places water gets in on each system, and they are entirely different lists. Ordering panels without the matching trim set is the most common way a combined job stalls.
In most cases yes — the panel and steel are the same. What differs is orientation and length: roof panels run the rafter run, siding panels run the wall height. The trim packages are completely different, which is the part that catches people out.
