Roofing panels run down the slope; siding panels typically run vertically from eave to grade. That means your panel length is your wall height, not your rafter run, and your panel count is driven by the perimeter rather than the roof area. It sounds obvious and it is still the thing people get wrong when ordering siding and roofing together on the same building. Give us both dimensions and we will keep them straight.
A wainscot is a band of contrasting colour running around the lower portion of the wall, usually about three feet high. It costs very little — you are buying the same square footage in two colours instead of one — and it is the single cheapest change that makes a steel building look designed rather than industrial. It also puts the darker colour where mud, mower damage and scuffs actually happen. Most barndominium and residential-adjacent builds we supply specify one.
Steel siding over existing wood is a common and sensible repair on barns and outbuildings where the frame is sound but the cladding has gone. You are adding a weather skin without a full tear-off. The framing underneath must still be structurally sound and reasonably straight — steel will not hide a bowed wall, it will telegraph it. Tell us it is a recover job so we spec fastener length to reach solid framing through the old material.
Siding needs J-channel where panels terminate against doors, windows and soffits; corner trim at every outside and inside corner; base trim at grade; and rake trim where wall meets roofline. These pieces are what keep water out at the transitions, which is where wall systems leak. We supply the full trim set colour-matched to your panels, and we would rather over-explain this list than have you discover a missing corner mid-install.
