Per sheet, per square, per square foot

A square in roofing means 100 square feet — it is the trade's standard unit and has nothing to do with a square shape. A sheet is one panel, and since our panels are cut to your length, a sheet price is only meaningful alongside the length. Per square foot is the most comparable across suppliers but the least used in conversation. When you collect quotes, convert everything to one unit before comparing, because a cheap per-sheet price on a short panel is not a cheap roof.

Why we quote live rather than publish a price list

Panel pricing tracks steel coil markets, which move continuously. A published price list is either updated constantly, padded high enough to absorb the swings, or quietly revised when you call. We quote from the coil cost on the day and tell you how long the number holds. That is less convenient than a printed price and considerably more honest than a figure designed to get you on the phone.

What actually moves your roofing number

Gauge is the obvious one — 26-gauge costs more than 29-gauge. Colour matters more than people expect, because some pigments cost meaningfully more to produce. Panel length affects handling and freight. Then there is everything that is not panels: ridge cap, eave and rake trim, J-channel, foam closures and screws routinely add a significant fraction on top of the panel price, and they are the line items most often left off a cheap-looking quote.

How to compare two roofing quotes fairly

Ask both suppliers for the same five things: gauge, net coverage per panel, whether panels are cut to your length or stock lengths, whether trim and closures are included, and the screw specification and quantity. Normalise for those and the spread between quotes usually collapses. If one number is dramatically lower after that exercise, something is still missing — find out what before you commit, not after the delivery arrives.
