Wooden storage buildings in the humid Southeast fail predictably: the sill plate wicks moisture at grade, termites find the timber, and the roof deck goes soft. Galvanized steel has none of those failure modes. It does not rot, insects have no interest in it, and there is no organic material for mould to colonise. Over fifteen or twenty years the difference in total cost is not close.
We should be straight about the trade-off. Bare steel sweats when warm humid air meets a cold roof, and anything stored underneath gets dripped on. This is entirely solvable with a vapour barrier or insulation package, but it needs to be specified at order time. If a supplier does not raise condensation when you tell them you are storing anything that matters, they are not thinking about your building past the sale.
