Pole barn versus steel clear-span — the honest comparison

Post-frame is often cheaper on the initial quote for modest spans, and it is a proven method. What it gives you is posts — set in ground or on brackets — which over decades in humid Southeastern soil are the component that eventually fails, and which are permanently in the way of how you use the floor. Steel clear-span costs more up front and gives you an unobstructed interior with nothing at grade to rot. For equipment storage where you need to manoeuvre, that difference usually decides it.

Pole barn purlins are typically spaced wider than residential decking, which is the one situation where stepping up to 26-gauge is genuinely worth discussing.
